Igbo people fruit called Graviola and its Health benefits.

When i used to live in West Africa, every now and then we would go from the port-Harcourt city to visit my grand papa’s home in the rural area of Orlu Imo State where Graviola is common. My Grandparents had a farm where they planted Soursop, i used to eat this spikey huge sweet fruits and i do miss it now i live in America. Graviola also comes from a tree in
the rain forests of Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia. Its scientific name is Annona muricata. Sometimes called custard apple, cherimoya, guanabana, soursop and brazilian paw paw. The active ingredient in this fruit is thought to be a type of plant compound (phytochemical) called annonaceous acetogenins.  People in African and South American countries have used graviola to treat infections with viruses or parasites, rheumatism, arthritis, depression. We know from research that some graviola extracts can help to treat these conditions. In many countries, people use the bark, leaves, root, and fruits of this tree for traditional remedies. It contains some amounts of vitamin C but from what we've searched it has not been proven to be effective as a cancer cure but i believe eating this fruit or any healthy fruit is a proactive step for reducing risk for cancer.

Cancer research UK says “Overall, there is no evidence to show that graviola works as a cure for cancer. In laboratory studies, graviola extracts can kill some types of liver and breast cancer cells that are resistant to particular chemotherapy drugs. But there haven’t been any large scale studies in humans. So we don't know yet whether it can work as a cancer treatment or not. Many sites on the internet advertise and promote graviola capsules as a cancer cure, but none of them are supported by any reputable scientific cancer organizations”.

But for all its worth, I loved this fruits for its strange shape and for its sweet smoothie like feel and taste. We usually tear it open and eat it like you would eat oranges without eating the spikey bark.

Futhermore, It is said that Guyabano can prevent Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) – can decrease the number of harmful bacteria that may be present in the urinary tract.
Guyabano has Niacin which is known for having significant benefits on levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) or good cholesterol.--- helping Increase Good Cholesterol Levels. It can be eaten to help relieve muscle Cramps.

In my experience it helps calm the body, it is a stress relieving fruit. it can

lower risk for Diabetes or reduce the insulin lack in a diabetic person. In our daily eating habits we should include Guyabano as one of our fresh fruit suitable for raw vegans, it could be eaten raw. If you find raw Guyabano fruit retailer located in Texas U.S, please do email me the info. But for now, i hope you've enjoyed learning something new.
