Benefits of fruit juices--Juicing

Fruit and vegetables are excellent sources of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other nutrients, including phyto-chemical compounds that have been shown to combat cancer and aging. Because healthy substances found naturally in fruits and vegetables are not all present in supplemental pills it is advised you eat plentiful amounts of fruits and vegetables. If you have a dislike for raw vegetables and fruits but would rather prefer juices--- juicing is an excellent way to add fruits and vegetables to your diet. Most people enjoy commercial juices for its flavor and nutritional advantages however; it comes with some disadvantages you should know:
There is evidence that commercial juices have caused a few food borne outbreaks and unpasteurized juices can also serve as a vehicle for food borne illnesses.
Vitamin C and other water-soluble vitamins can be damaged by over processing or overcooking and most commercial juices are heat treated to lengthen shelf life but in turn does destroy important nutrients, even raw fresh made juices can lose some of their nutrients if allowed to sit for a long period of time.
Preservatives are sometimes added to most commercial juices plus high amounts of refined sugar.
Most commercial juices contains the whole fruits and vegetables except the fiber which is the indigestible part of the plant containing most of the plants health promoting components so therefore buying the best organic produce, properly preparing it for juicing, processing it in your own juicer—made fresh in your kitchen and consumed immediately is the most healthy way to enjoy nutrient-rich juices. Fresh juices provide all of the plants healthful ingredients in a form that is easy to digest and absorb. It is estimated that fruits and vegetables juices can be assimilated in twenty to thirty minutes.

                                                  Benefits of fruit juices
Fruit juices help cleanse the body and nourish it with important nutrients, including cancer fighting antioxidants. Any fruit can be juiced however some fruits are best for juicing more delicious juices.
Water melon is a cleansing fruit that can be juiced by placing a whole piece of watermelon with the body intact into the juicer—juice away—now you have a refreshing water melon cleanse juice. You can enjoy this refreshing fruit juices chilled or at room temperature. 10 to 12 ounces per daily is recommended. Apples, apricots, bananas, berries, pears, melons, pineapple, guava, citrus fruits like oranges, lemon, lime etc, can be juiced.  Also, you can welcome a guest with a fresh glass of refreshing fruit juices.

A few tips for preparing produce for juicing
  • Whenever possible, buy and use organically grown produce---produce that is grown without the use of pesticides and other harmful chemicals. This prevents chemical residues from ending up in your juice.
  • If you are unable to obtain organically grown fruits and vegetables, peel or wash the produce thoroughly, using a vegetable brush to remove chemical residues and waxes. Most health food stores carry vegetable cleaners that will help remove any residues.
  • When using organically grown produce, feel free to leave the skin on in most cases. Do remove the skin, though, before juicing apricots, grapefruits, kiwis, oranges, papayas, peaches, and pineapples. The skin of oranges and grapefruits are quite bitter, and also contain a toxic substance that should not be consumed in large amounts. Because kiwis and papayas are tropical fruits, their skin may contain spray residues of pesticides used during cultivation that are harmful. Pineapple skin is not to be juiced, always peel pineapple because the skin is too thick to be processed by most juicers.
  • When juicing fruits, leave in small seeds, except when using apples. Apple seeds actually contain cyanide, a toxic substance and because of their size and hardness, all pitts must be removed.
  • Juices are best when stems of leaves of fruits or vegetables are left intact. However, remove carrot and rhubarb greens, as they contain toxic substances.
  • When using soft fruits such as avocados, bananas, papayas that contain very little water puree the fruits in a blender rather than using a juicer. Then stir the puree into other juices.
  • Remember to use different types of vegetables and fruits to get a variety of nutrients.
