Environmental allergy is an allergic reaction caused by inhaling or injecting substances that can trigger an allergic reaction. This type of allergy can be caused by both indoors and outdoors factors such like grass pollen, green pollen, chemicals, mold, cigarette smoke, dust and dust mites, mold spores, pet dander and some pet food containing preservatives and additives. Children are usually more vulnerable to environmental allergens so it is very important not to expose your children to cigarette smoke before or after birth. Exposing children to secondhand smoke has been shown to increase the development of wheezing in infant, allergies, asthma and other chronic respiratory illnesses.
If when you come in contact with detergents, fur, dust, grass pollens you find yourself wheezing with tears in your eye, swollen eyes/lips, redden skin, skin rashes you might have come in contact with an environmental allergen you are allergic to.
For e.g., when I come in contact with anything wool especially wool blanket or wool hair fibers I get chills/Goosebumps all over my arm and I turn red(blood rush to my skin)- it disappears after I remove my hands from the wool material for a few minutes. Also, when I come in contact with cigarette smoke I get nose itch/irritation, wheeze and cough.
