Tip for shopping nontoxic

Loop Holes in public health and food laws allow food and cosmetics companies to use almost any ingredient they choose. Worse, the cosmetics laws do not have restrictions and requirement for safety testing. We are here to help you make a switch into buying healthier products.

Tip for shopping when switching to nontoxic:
First, take a note pad, divide it into 2 columns. On one side start making a list of all the toxic ingredient and things in your life.
Use our What Not To Buy list: to find toxic ingredient, read about it and avoid it or substitute it for something less toxic.

Read labels. Some companies have been found guilt of advertising toxic products as organic, natural,  hypoallergenic, animal cruelty free, and fragrance free. Their claims on personal care products are not defined under the law, and can mean anything- it's more profit centered ad than it is concerned with conscious nontoxic consumer. Read the ingredient label carefully to find the evidence that the claims are true. There are alternative nontoxic products, thanks to the noble inventions of the organic/Ayurveda/herbal/green companies of our time.

Avoid toxic perfume/ par fum/ fragrance products: Go for a fragrance free organic/Ayurveda options. Fragrances can cause allergic reactions. Products that claim to be "fragrance free" on the packaging may not be. They could contain masking fragrances that give off a neutral odor. Read the ingredient label to make sure it contains no fragrance.

When you are done making a list of all the toxic ingredient and things in your life. Make a list of all the nontoxic ingredients and things you can use to substitute or get rid of the toxic stuff in your life. After you do this, print out the toxic list and nontoxic substitute. Paste the toxic cosmetic ingredient and substitute in your bathroom wall as a reminder. Paste the toxic food ingredient and substitute on your kitchen wall where you can see it, as a reminder. You can put a print copy in your shopping bag or wallet for reference and as a reminder.

It may take you a day, one month or even a year, that is alright; the point really is doing your very best to eliminate avoidable toxins from your life. Don't wait to start on a nontoxic lifestyle! Remember the more green/organic/herbal/Ayurveda products you purchase helps keep the organic/herbal/Ayurveda industry with us because what they are providing benefits you and it benefit them, no one is cheated because you bought something healthy/nontoxic instead of something toxic, this way you doing your part in helping reduce toxins in the world.

Take your Eco-friendly shopping bag along with you to shop. If not make sure to reduce and recycle the plastic bag.
