Makeup Hygiene- Your safety

One of the most commonly overlooked areas that is not frequently talked about is the topics of makeup safety and makeup hygiene. As an example, do you know (without looking) how old all your current makeup products are?  If you are like most women, you have some old expired products around that you are still using. If this is the case, you can pretty well be assured that you are using products that have a very high bacteria count and are not helping you minimize unnecessary rashes and eye infections.
The following are a few makeup safety tips worth considering:
1.  If you get an eye infection of any type, discard the old and buy new mascara.

3.  Always wash your makeup foundation brush or sponge after use.  Every time you use your brush or sponge you are collecting dirt, bacteria and oils from your skin.  You’ll need to keep some extra brushes and sponge available to make sure that you always have dry one ready for use.

4.  Do not share your makeup with friends and family.  This is how colds, viruses, infections, and even cold sores are spread.  When looking for the best makeup foundation for your skin, remember to always use a new disposable applicator when sampling products at an in-store cosmetics counter. You should make sure that your salesperson cleans the openings of the container with alcohol before applying the product to your skin.

5.  To minimize bacteria growth, always keep the the lid on your lipstick.

6.  If your makeup changes color or an odor develops, throw it out. This is usually an indication that the preservatives have degraded over time are no longer able to fight off the ever-growing bacteria.

7.  Sunlight and heat can rapidly degrade the preservatives in your makeup, so always keep your makeup away from sunlight-(caution: preservative may be toxic, go with an alternative).

8.  Replace your eye makeup applicators after 6 months.   Dirt, oils and bacteria build up on these tools and can be harmful to your skin and eyes by causing rashes and infections.

9.  Always remove all makeup before bed. When you sleep with your makeup still on, you allow dirt, oils and bacteria to accumulate on skin and eyes which clogs your pores, which can then cause rashes and infection.  Always wash and cleanse your face and eyes thoroughly before going to bed as part of  good makeup hygiene.

Your cosmetic foundation makeup is an indispensable tool for looking your best.  It’s important to maintain good makeup hygiene and use the above makeup safety tips when applying and storing your makeup to keep your skin and eyes as healthy and beautiful as possible.
