It's the cold season and it’s time for your ginger
warming remedy. Ginger can be warming and a soothing reliever for cold related
problems. Ginger is a member of the zingiberaceae family and it's widely used
for its fragrance in ethnic cuisines and in Scandinavian breads and pastries
like cardamom---you must have heard of the famous bake called the ginger bread
man. Ginger not only serves well in the kitchen, it also has a long history in
folk Ayurveda medicine.
- As a medicine, ginger helps prevent motion sickness and quells nausea. Pure nonalcoholic ginger ale or beer, ginger pills, candied ginger root have been used to counteract nausea and vomiting in motion sickness. Sipping on flat ginger ale or sucking candied ginger that has more concentrated flavor may help to quell spells of nausea caused by morning sickness, food poisoning, gastroenteritis, cancer chemotherapy. A recent study found that ginger was as effective as the prescription medication for nausea and vomiting, even much more effective because it doesn’t cause the drowsiness and other problems the prescription medication causes.
- Ginger helps relieve pain and menstrual cramps---ginger helps improve circulation and warmth, therefore helping reduce bloating and other symptoms associated with menstrual cycle.
- Ginger may be helpful to cancer patients---recent studies have shown that beta ionone, a terpenoid found in ginger does have anticancer properties.
- Ginger helps reduce gassing---flatulence: Raw ginger added to bean dishes helps reduce flatulence caused when bean products are digested.
- Ginger helps relieve pain, migraine caused by inflammation in blood vessels in the brain; ginger helps reduce the symptoms associated with arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis because it blocks the pro-inflammatory prostaglandins (hormone like chemicals) that contribute to joint swelling and pain. You can use ginger slices and lavender oil, mint oil or jojoba oil to massage yourself if you have body aches, it soothing and relieving.

Relieve chills, congestion caused by cold by keeping a warm blanket on yourself and drinking Lemon ginger tea. Make ginger tea recipe by simmering one or 2 slices of fresh ginger root in water for 10minutes, adding a few drops of honey, lemon and cinnamon for sweetening and flavor or you can just simmer lemon ginger tea in warm water....drink away the chills
