Dangerous Bisphenol in plastics

Biphenol (BPA) is first synthesized as a synthetic estrogen (A man-made hormone). BPA was quickly adopted by the chemical industry when they realized it could be transformed through the process of polymerization into polycarbonate, a plastic with many attractive properties such as low weight, high heat and electrical resistance, shatter resistance, optical clarity, from there on possible usage in the food and drink packaging industry increased.

Today, BPA is in the expoxy-resin coating used inside some metals cans so that the food inside can be heated to temperature high enough to kill any bacteria without the metal of the can contaminating the content but unfortunately this leaves the food contaminated with bisphenol. Many canned foods are contaminated with BPA.
BPA is also found in seawater, as in marine species eaten by humans. BPA can be found in baby feeding bottles, plastic water bottles, Dvd, mobile phones, electrical appliances, sport equipment, eye glass lenses, some car parts, medical equipment, refrigerator shelves, dental sealants, flooring, paints, adhesives, certain pesticides, flame retardants used as a stabilizer in synthetic rubber chemicals and PVC, food packaging, coating on the inside of cans, plastic eating utensils, plastic food containers including microwaveable once.

People can be exposed to BPA through house dust inhalation, Ingestion or direct exposure to BPA released when polycarbonate plastics degrades overtime, or even through breast milk and placenta contamination from mother to child.

Findings:
Women tend to have higher content of BPA than men in their body due to the difference in exposure or metabolism between the sexes.
BPA makes snails produce so many eggs till they burst and die

Effects of Bisphenol (BPA)
  • BPA have complex and potentially dangerous effect on our endocrine system and damaging effects in the immune system.
  • Fetal sensitivity can occur from BPA exposure of the fetus in the womb through placenta.
  • BPA has been found in breast cancer tissue, male reproductive system, and it has been linked to miscarriage, immune system defects, polycystic Ovarian disease, possible links to diabetes, insulin resistance and obesity.

How do we avoid Bisphenol (BPA) even when our groceries are packaged in plastics

How to avoid Bisphenol contamination
  • Use glass bottles instead of polycarbonate.
  • Use metal, lead-free ceramic, glass or paper plates instead of plastics.
  • Avoid white composite dental fillings.
  • Use glass or BPA free baby bottles instead of plastic baby bottles; if you do choose to use polycarbonate bottles make sure you discard it after 3months or once you notice scratches on it.
  • Do not microwave food in plastic wraps or container.
  • Minimize intake of canned foods, especially high fat canned food because lipophilic toxics remain in the fat tissues of the body, liver, brain and blood for a long time.
  • Buy spices and foods packaged in glass instead of plastics and tins. Start grocery shopping with recyclable bag.
  • Save/recycle oatmeal paper containers for storing spices, and food in plastics packages like rice, beans, etc.
  • Store food in the refrigerator using glass containers instead of plastic wraps.
  • Glass plates are safe. Keep in mind that all plastics are not toxic--there are edible plastics.

Note: We use electronics, blenders, computers, pens, printers and ink, hangers; it's hard to get rid of plastics. The most important aspect is trying as much as you can to get rid of the plastics that are in direct contact with your body and food. Live simply, buy only what you need and what you will use, because when you live simply, you accumulate less plastic & chemical toxic. When it feels almost impossible to avoid it all, what you can do is reduce, eliminate toxics by replacing them with nontoxic alternatives, Detox your body of accumulated toxics and boost your immune system by eating super foods from a reputable organic grower or learn how to grow your own pesticide free foods. Remember don't stress it by bugging yourself out with worrying about toxic or by been scared, just improve, and soon you will see yourself reaching those nontoxic goals you've set for yourself as you eliminate direct food, cosmetic, body and home toxic.
