A vegetarian thought

Never really wondered how these eggs get to the store, the disadvantage and advantage. Well today as I was watching how to make a vegan cake without eggs How to Make a Vegan Chocolate Cake: Vegan Dessert Recipes | eHow.com, the mention of e-coli and salmonella that sometimes contaminate eggs got my attention; so I decided to look up why vegans don’t eat eggs, and while I read this article http://www.nontoxiclifestyle.org/2010/09/whats-wrong-with-dairy-products-and.html .
Then i realized that going vegan or choosing to be a vegetarian is a personal choice based on personal ethics that is well worth it, though its takes some time to transition from a meat eater to a non animal diet.

VEGETARIANS ARE HEALTHY

"Vegetarians have the lowest rate of atherosclerotic heart disease of any group in the United States. The process of atherosclerosis doesn't just cause heart attacks; it also causes impotence.Meat eaters have a ten times greater risk of breast and colon cancer than do pure vegetarians.

On a low fat vegetarian diet 90% of adult-onset diabetics can reduce or entirely eliminate their insulin injections Tens of millions of Americans suffer from osteoporosis and kidney failure due to excess animal protein consumption. Meat-eating women have levels of chemical pollution in their breast milk 35 times higher than in the breast milk of pure vegetarians".--- Vegetarian society

VEGETARIANS ARE ECOLOGICAL

"75% of our food-growing topsoil in the United States has eroded, almost all of it off farmland and grazing land used for animal agriculture. One acre of land growing broccoli will supply ten times as much protein as an acre of land producing beef. If acreage now being used for grazing cattle and raising feed grains were growing trees or fiber plants to burn for energy, we would have no need to import foreign oil. More than half of the water used for all purposes in the United States is used for livestock production. Water pollution from feedlots and feed grain field runoff (manure, topsoil, pesticides, fertilizer, etc.) contaminates more streams and rivers than do all the wastes from all U.S. cities and industries combined".---vegetarian Society

VEGETARIANS ARE COMPASSIONATE

"In the United States ten billion animals are killed for food every year. Veal calves are chained in crates to prevent movement and fed iron-deficient food to make them anemic in order to keep their flesh pale. Egg-laying hens are painfully de-beaked, then raised in cages so small that they are unable to stretch their wings. Fishing depletes fish populations, disrupting vital food chains and forcing marine mammals and sea birds to extinction through starvation. Vegans do not eat animal products and therefore do not contribute to the suffering and needless death of animals raised for food".---Vegetarian Society

There are different kinds of vegetarian diet
Is true most people don't know what vegetarianism is all about? First let me start by saying there are different kinds of vegetarians which are

Type - Food Restrictions
Vegan- No animal foods
Ovo- Vegetarian- Eggs allowed; no dairy or meat
Lacto—Vegetarian- Dairy allowed; no eggs or meat
Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarian- Dairy and eggs allowed; no meat
Pesco-Vegetarian- Dairy, eggs, and fish allowed; no other meat
Semi-Vegetarian- Dairy, eggs, chicken, and fish allowed; no other meat

It takes much commitment and courage to be vegetarian so if you are at Ovo-vegetarian stage and find that it is a comfortable stage for you by all means go for it. You can upgrade to vegan if you wish but remember is not about depriving yourself of what you much desire to eat, it is about the rational thought as to why you choose a vegetarian diet and the benefits to you, for example, I went vegetarian to keep my body healthy and avoid the toxins and hormones in meat and also i am against animal cruelty (don’t like the idea of slaughtering animals for food), I mean think about it, how would you like it if I ate your pet (dog, cat, bird, rat), those animal deserve to be a part of nature not to be slaughtered. No need to worry about over population, natural selection will occur naturally in nature.

I guess it boils down to your ethics, commitment to what you care about. Don't get discouraged, keep your diet commitment and improve on it daily- (it’s the key to your nutritional health). For example I have been vegetarian (no meat or milk) a year and 6months went from Pesco-vegetarianism to Ovo- vegetarianism. Going vegan is a process, no one does it overnight. Also remember to check your choice of deserts such like commercial chocolate milk cookies they are mostly made with animal products like dairy and eggs. Vegetarians are choosy about food meaning they’re conscious about their nutritional choice and source. To keep your energy and nutrient as a vegetarian you must avoid skipping meals especially breakfast, so go high on your fruit, vegetables, fibers, Proteins (flax seed and wheat germ, tofu- good protein source), take vitamin B12. Keep vegan snacks or fruit salad with you when transitioning or out in the public so you are not tempted to eat animal product food if you're invited (like eat one, it won't kill you meals), don't force yourself to eat something not fitting to your diet just to fit in. Try sticking to your diet & a nice friend should understand. Vegetarianism is not about food deprivation; it is about conscious food choices for a healthy nutrition and to maintain a sustainable earth friendly solutions.
