Herbs and help for Depression

  • Some of the more easily recognizable herbs that are used to alleviate depression are: ginseng, which increases energy and alleviates depression; ginkgo Bilbao- it improves blood circulation throughout the body. which improves blood flow to the brain enhancing brain function, helps improve concentration, memory function and mood.  
  • Gotu kola, which treats anxiety and depression.
  • Goji berry is one of the best fruit for depression,  
  • Primrose oil soft gel supplement will help balance hormone to reduce mood swings.
  • Make and drink herbal teas-yogi tea
  • Ginseng- Both varieties of ginseng (Panax and Siberian ginseng) have a solid reputation for energy enhancement. This herb can be taken on a daily basis, but exercise caution. Possible side effects include breast tenderness and high blood pressure.
  • Kava Kava -Kava is also prescribed for everyday anxiety, as well as for painful menstrual cramps. Experts say it can help with insomnia, too.  
  • St. John's Wort -known for its ability to improve mood and diminish anxiety, Effective for  for anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders. 
  •  Take B6, B12 vitamin, and folate.Get lots of B vitamins like B6, B12 and folate- it's been shown to provide relief depression. B6 play a role in helping convert tryotophan to serotonin in the brain. B6 can be found in whole grains, bananas, potatoes etc. Folate and B12 can be found in green leafy vegetables, orange juice, lentils, corn, asparagus, peas, fortified soy nuts, and seeds

  • Also teas with orange/orange peel and herbal oil helps to stimulate the mind.
  • It helps to talk with a supportive friend, GO out- have a little fun or cafe time. 
  • Playing biofeedback games.
  • Take a cold shower.
  • Watch a fun movie like a comedy show.
  • Exercise is very effective in treating  major depression. 
  • Limit sugar consumption- some people are sugar sensitive people when they eat large amount of sweets, they may experience an energetic "high" followed by a "low" with weakness and "jitters" when the sugar is metabolized. Avoid High corn syrup, fructose drinks, artificial sweetener/sugar
  • Avoid ZOLOFT, PROZAC, PAXIL etc,- it doesn't cure, it is an additctive psychiatry drug like most pain killer. The point is get well and get off the medication not to become dependent. It is known to push people into manic depression. It has been known to make some depressed patient commit suicide.
